In this post i will show how to create a minimalist docker file suitable for running gui application. The steps are as follows:
1. Create docker file:
Code: Select all
FROM alpine:latest
RUN apk update
RUN apk upgrade
RUN apk --no-cache --update add x11vnc
RUN apk --no-cache add xvfb xfce4 xfce4-terminal supervisor sudo \
&& addgroup alpine \
&& adduser -G alpine -s /bin/sh -D alpine \
&& echo "alpine:alpine" | /usr/sbin/chpasswd \
&& echo "alpine ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL" >> /etc/sudoers \
&& rm -rf /apk /tmp/* /var/cache/apk/*
USER alpine
ENV USER=alpine \
DISPLAY=:1 \
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 \
LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 \
HOME=/home/alpine \
TERM=xterm \
SHELL=/bin/bash \
VNC_PASSWD=alpinelinux \
VNC_PORT=5900 \
VNC_RESOLUTION=1024x768 \
VNC_COL_DEPTH=24 \
NOVNC_PORT=6080 \
NOVNC_HOME=/opt/noVNC
RUN sudo apk update \
&& sudo apk add git \
&& sudo git clone https://github.com/novnc/noVNC /opt/noVNC \
&& sudo apk add bash
WORKDIR $HOME
EXPOSE $VNC_PORT $NOVNC_PORT
COPY supervisord.conf /etc/supervisord.conf
CMD ["sudo","/usr/bin/supervisord","-c","/etc/supervisord.conf"]
3. In order to run supervisor we have to give supervisord.conf file for supervisord configuration. Detail configuration is as follows:
Code: Select all
; Sample supervisor config file.
;
; For more information on the config file, please see:
; http://supervisord.org/configuration.html
;
; Notes:
; - Shell expansion ("~" or "$HOME") is not supported. Environment
; variables can be expanded using this syntax: "%(ENV_HOME)s".
; - Quotes around values are not supported, except in the case of
; the environment= options as shown below.
; - Comments must have a leading space: "a=b ;comment" not "a=b;comment".
; - Command will be truncated if it looks like a config file comment, e.g.
; "command=bash -c 'foo ; bar'" will truncate to "command=bash -c 'foo ".
;
; Warning:
; Paths throughout this example file use /tmp because it is available on most
; systems. You will likely need to change these to locations more appropriate
; for your system. Some systems periodically delete older files in /tmp.
; Notably, if the socket file defined in the [unix_http_server] section below
; is deleted, supervisorctl will be unable to connect to supervisord.
[unix_http_server]
file=/run/supervisord.sock ; the path to the socket file
;chmod=0700 ; socket file mode (default 0700)
;chown=nobody:nogroup ; socket file uid:gid owner
;username=user ; default is no username (open server)
;password=123 ; default is no password (open server)
; Security Warning:
; The inet HTTP server is not enabled by default. The inet HTTP server is
; enabled by uncommenting the [inet_http_server] section below. The inet
; HTTP server is intended for use within a trusted environment only. It
; should only be bound to localhost or only accessible from within an
; isolated, trusted network. The inet HTTP server does not support any
; form of encryption. The inet HTTP server does not use authentication
; by default (see the username= and password= options to add authentication).
; Never expose the inet HTTP server to the public internet.
;[inet_http_server] ; inet (TCP) server disabled by default
;port=127.0.0.1:9001 ; ip_address:port specifier, *:port for all iface
;username=user ; default is no username (open server)
;password=123 ; default is no password (open server)

; RPC (supervisorctl/web interface) to work. Additional interfaces may be
; added by defining them in separate [rpcinterface:x] sections.
[rpcinterface:supervisor]
supervisor.rpcinterface_factory = supervisor.rpcinterface:make_main_rpcinterface
; The supervisorctl section configures how supervisorctl will connect to
; supervisord. configure it match the settings in either the unix_http_server
; or inet_http_server section.

[supervisord]
nodaemon=true
[program:xvfb]
command=/usr/bin/Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1920x1080x24

command=/usr/bin/startxfce4
user=root
autostart=true
autorestart=true

[program:novnc]
priority=25
directory=/opt/noVNC
command=bash /opt/noVNC/utils/novnc_proxy --vnc localhost:5900 --listen 6080
user=root
autostart=true
autorestart=true
stopsignal=QUIT
stopasgroup=true
Code: Select all
docker build -t="alpine_vnc" .
Code: Select all
docker create -t -i -p 5900:5900 -p 6080:6080 --name alpine_gui alpine_vnc
Code: Select all
docker start alpine_gui
8. Connect novnc from browser with http://<host ip address>:6080
9. 64 bit windows application can be installed in wine and will run without any issue.
10. When installing 32 bit windows application there will be error for MFC42.dll issue. To solve this we have to install winetricks available on edge repositories.
Code: Select all
docker exec -it alpine_gui /bin/bash
cd /etc/apk
sudo vi repositories
Code: Select all
http://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine/edge/community
http://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine/edge/testing
11. Now install winetricks
Code: Select all
sudo apk add winetricks
12. After winetricks is installed, install MFC42.dll
Code: Select all
winetricks -q mfc42
13. Now you can run any windows 32 bit program in wine.
